Whew! I can't imagine what it would be like here in July or August. It's typically in the high 70's when were in port and we are sweating bullets walking around the tourist sites. Friday was Athens, Greece, where we toured the Acropolis with the Parthenon - very interesting, but lots of walking up hills and many, many steps. Due to poor sunscreen application, I am really an Alabama redneck now, which was oh-so-lovely for our last formal night on the ship last night!
Today was Pompeii, near Naples, Italy, and that was probably my favorite of all (picture is of Maggie & Joel at the Pompeii forum w/Mt. Vesuvius in the background). It was fascinating touring the city, but again, lots of inclines and steps working our way up. Thank heavens for plentiful hot water on the ship for long showers when we return from these trips. Interestingly, we saw lots of stray dogs (not cats) in these two places. 17 today, and about 11 I think on Friday.
We disembark the ship at 5:45 AM tomorrow and spend the day in Rome once again to see the Vatican, then come home on Tuesday. We're ready now to go, but have savored this evening's last sunset. We all admit it will be a harsh return to reality when we have to start serving ourselves meals (let alone cook them) and make our own beds! We've decided to get Maggie a crumb catcher so she can at least keep "treating us famously" (the Celebrity motto) when we get home!
