We lost our beloved Aunt Sarah Alice "Sally" Vann on March 19 to ovarian cancer. For the last 1.5 years, I had the privilege of working closely with Sally, her caregivers and members of Joel's family to help make her last months with us as comfortable and safe as possible. Though a difficult time for Sally, I can't help but be thankful for this special time where we really got to know one another on a much deeper level than I would've ever imagined. Growing older, wiser and with a sharp wit tempered by true Southern charm and graciousness, even during dark times, is something I aspire to achieve following in Sally's footsteps.
