Dear Family and Friends,
2008 has been another year of changes for us. Nate has gone from “baby” to “toddler”, and is an active 22 month old at the time of this letter. He has two speeds – go, and go faster! He attends a local church daycare and really seems to thrive there, becoming more independent every day. When I go pick him up in the afternoon, he runs to the door saying “MOM!” and then turns around and waves at his friends saying “Bye, bye!” He seems pleased with himself at his ever expanding verbal skills but still gets frustrated when the rest of us don’t quite understand just what he’s trying to say. Tantrums have occurred, and the terrible twos seem imminent. But when he’s good, he’s very, very good!
Maggie has gone from “kid” to “tween” as a 10 year old fifth grader. This will be her last year at our elementary school, which is really hard fact to stomach for her parents. She continues taking dance (jazz, tap & hip-hop this year) and socializing with friends, especially via her new cell phone, seems to take increasing priority. She remains a good student, but appears to have inherited the Goldman Procrastination Gene. Prayers for the parents of these two delightful darlings as we negotiate the coming years with kids in very different yet equally challenging phases will be much appreciated.
I taught a water/wastewater design class again for UAH's Civil & Environmental Engineering Department last spring, then began in June as the Engineering Manager in a 30 hour/week position with a water and wastewater utility in a neighboring city. It has been an adjustment for us all for me to be back at work nearly full time, but the schedule seems to be working well now. I continue with volunteer roles as Treasurer of my women's club, children's Sunday School co-chair for our church, and PTA responsibilities at Maggie's school.
Joel has transitioned from his role at NASA as the LO2/Methane Main Engine Project Manager on the Lunar Lander to include responsibilities with additional engine projects, including ARES. Joel stays busy with work and some new travel requirements, and also serves as a Deacon at our church. Together, we celebrated our 15th Anniversary back in August with a week long trip to Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, Canada (thanks to our dear family for keeping the kids so we could go). It was wonderful and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in that part of the world.

That's a quick summary of our life this year. We are eagerly looking forward to receiving your cards and emails and seeing what you've been up to. We send you our best wishes for a happy and healthy 2009!
Much love,
Christi, Joel, Maggie and Nate
